Anthony Cacace vs Josh Warrington Predictions & Tips

Anthony Cacace is tipped to retain the IBF super-featherweight title by decision.

Cacace is coming off the most impressive win of his career to date, while Josh Warrington is clearly on the downturn in his career.

  • Anthony Cacace is on a 7-fight win streak
  • 14 of Anthony Cacace’s 22 career wins have been by decision
  • Josh Warrington has won just 1 of his previous 5 fights
  • 25 of Josh Warrington 35 career fights have gone the distance

Anthony Cacace Form

Anthony Cacace is the defending IBF super-featherweight champion with a professional record of 22-1 (8 KOs).

Cacace debuted in February 2012 and went on to win the first 15 fights of his career, before seeing that perfect run end with a decision defeat to Martin Joseph Ward in July 2017.

The 35-year-old Northern Irishman responded to missing out on the British and Commonwealth titles with a seven-fight win streak that propelled him to a world title.

He bounced back with points wins over Reynaldo Mora and Alan Castillo, before edging Sam Bown by split decision for the British title.

Cacace successfully defended that crown with a unanimous decision win over Lyon Woodstook, before claiming the IBO title with a split decision win over Michael Magnesi in September 2022.

He retained that belt with a unanimous points win over Damian Wrzesinski in his only outing of 2023, and that was enough to earn him a crack at the IBF title.

‘The Apache’ took his big chance on the undercard of Tyson Fury-Oleksandr Usyk in May, stopping Joe Cordina in the eighth round.

Josh Warrington Form

Josh Warrington is a former two-time featherweight world champion with a professional record of 31-3 (8 KOs) and 1 draw.

Warrington became a world champion for the first time in his career when he edged a split decision win over Lee Selby in May 2018.

He then enjoyed a successful first defence as he beat Carl Frampton via unanimous decision in an eagerly-anticipated matchup.

The 33-year-old Yorkshireman then retained the title two more times as he beat Kid Galahad via split decision before stopping Sofiane Takoucht in the second round.

Warrington’s reign came to a surprise end in February 2021 when he was knocked out by Mauricio Lara in the ninth round.

The two men fought again later that year but the rematch ended with an unsatisfying result, as an accidental clash of heads left Lara with a cut that forced the fight to be stopped in the second round.

Warrington rebounded in March 2022 when he regained the IBF title from Kiko Martinez via a seventh round knockout, but he has not won since that night.

He lost the title to Luis Alberto Lopez via majority decision in December 2022, and in his only fight in 2023 he was knocked out in the seventh round by WBA featherweight champion Leigh Wood.

Verdict

Anthony Cacace may be the older fighter, but there appears to be more left in his tank.

Neither man is renowned for their knockout power, so we expect Cacace to earn the approval of the judges over 12 rounds.
