Gennady Golovkin v Canelo Alvarez Preview & Betting Tips

The best pound for pound boxers in the sport come together for what shapes as the super fight of the year. Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez will face off in a rematch for the IBO World Middleweight title at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Gennady Golovkin (38-0-1)

Triple-G comes into the rematch against Alvarez with a 38-0-1 record, and has 34 career knockouts to his credit. The 36-year-old Golovkin is facing his fourth bout since 2017 and he showed in his May win over Vanes Martirosyan that he has lost none of his punching power.

The Kazakhstani fighter recorded a brutal second-round knock-out, ending the fight before it really started.

Only five of Golovkin’s career bouts have reached a decision and he has had some minor struggles in his last two bouts. Triple-G has made his career as a pressure fighter, always advancing forward in the ring and always looking for the haymaker.
Canelo Alvarez (49-1-2)

The 28-year-old Alvarez is facing his first bout in a little over a year since his draw with Triple-G last September. The Mexican comes into the fight with a stunning 49-1-2 record that includes 34 career knockouts.

Alvarez has been in stunning form, winning seven of his last eight bouts; but the extended 12-month layoff could take a toll if the fight goes the distance.

Alvarez was lucky to get the draw in his first meeting with Golovkin, thanks to the outlandish scoring of judge Adalaide Byrd, giving the fight to Alvarez 118-110. Byrd was suspended for heavily favouring Alvarez.

The underdog packs some significant punching power and has produced a knockout in eight of his last 13 wins. He is one of the best offensive fighters in the division, with a proven chin and defence that is tough to crack. As we saw in the first bout, he is also one of the few noted fighters who has been able to take a punch from Golovkin.

Golovkin was robbed in the first bout and I’m predicting that he will get his man in the second outing against Alvarez. Triple-G will be looking to walk Alvarez around the ring this time around and I’m predicting that he’ll control the tempo and aggression in this bout.

Alvarez has had a year out of the game and I’m predicting that Golovkin will come out swinging, dominate this fight and win by decision.

Best Bet: Gennady Golovkin by decision @ 2.87
