Josh Taylor vs Jack Catterall 2 Predictions & Tips

Jack Catterall is tipped to avenge his controversial defeat from 2022.

Catterall was robbed by the judges two years ago, but he has rebounded well with a couple of wins.

Josh Taylor, on the other hand, looks like his career is on the downturn after back-to-back underwhelming displays.

  • Jack Catterall has won 28 of his 29 career fights
  • 7 of Jack Catterall’s last 8 fights have gone the distance
  • 5 of Josh Taylor’s last 6 fights have gone the full 12 rounds
  • Jack Catterall out-landed Josh Taylor 120-73 in the first fight

Head To Head

  • Josh Taylor won by split decision when the two men fought in February 2022

Josh Taylor Form

Josh Taylor is a former undisputed super-lightweight world champion with a professional record of 19-1 (13 KOs).

Taylor became a world champion for the first time in 2019 when he took part in the World Boxing Super Series tournament.

He beat Ivan Baranchyk by unanimous decision to win the IBF super-lightweight title in the semi-finals in May of that year.

The 33-year-old Scotsman then claimed the IBF, WBA (Super) and Ring Magazine belts by earning a majority decision win over Regis Prograis in the final in October.

Taylor successful retained those belts in his sole outing of 2020, knocking out Apinun Khongsong in the first round, before unfitting the division in his only outing of 2021.

‘The Tartan Tornado’ faced Jose Ramirez in Las Vegas and added the WBC and WBO titles via unanimous decision, becoming the first British fighter to unify a decision in the four-belt era.

He then successfully defended the crown in his only outing of 2022, although his split decision win over Jack Catterall was engulfed in controversy.

There would be no such controversy in Taylor’s sole fight of 2023, as he dropped a unanimous decision to Teofimo Lopez.

Jack Catterall Form

Jack Catterall enters this fight with a professional record of 28-1, with 13 of his victories coming by way of knockout.

Catterall held several minor titles during his climb up the ladder, which included a unanimous decision victory over Ohara Davies in October 2018.

That victory saw him retain his WBO inter-continental super-lightweight title for the third time, but he did not make another defence of that belt.

Instead he beat Oscar Amador by third-round knockout, before recording a couple of points victories to continue his rise.

He beat Timo Schwarzkopf by unanimous decision in November 2019, and a year late he won a 10-round fight with Abderrazak Houya on points.

Those victories earned Catterall a shot at the undisputed super-lightweight crown, and he produced the best performance of his career during that fight.

He floored Josh Taylor once as he appeared to earn a points win over the Scottish fighter, only for two of the judges to rule in the champion’s favour.

Catterall rebounded in 2023 though, as he registered unanimous decision wins over both Darragh Foley and Jorge Linares.

Verdict

To put it bluntly, Jack Catterall was robbed of victory when the two men fought in 2022.

Josh Taylor struggled that night and did not look any better against Teofimo Lopez, so this time we expect Catterall to have his hand raised.
