Leigh Wood (27-3, 16 KOs) defends his WBA featherweight world title against Josh Warrington (31-2-1, 8 KOs) at the Utilita Arena in Sheffield, England on Saturday, October 7.

Wood has blossomed late in his career, rebounding from a 2020 loss to Jazza Dickens to win four of his last five fights and become a full world champion in the featherweight division.

The 35-year-old from Nottingham won the WBA (Regular) title in July 2021 and the following year he was upgraded to full championship status. He lost that title in his first defence back in February, but got his revenge in May when he won the rematch with Mauricio Lara to reclaim the crown.

He now looks to make a successful first defence of his newly-regained title by facing a domestic rival who also has previous with Lara.

Josh Warrington suffered a shock defeat to Lara back in February 2021, and was unable to get his revenge later that year as an accidental clash of heads resulted in Lara suffering a fight-ended cut in the second round.

Since then the former IBF champion has beaten Kiko Martinez to reclaim the IBF featherweight title, only to lose it to Luis Alberto Lopez last December, but he now has an opportunity to become a three-time world champion.
