Cheltenham Festival betting set to hit record high

The biggest week of the betting year, the Cheltenham Festival, is expected to trigger a £300 million betting bonanza across the industry in the United Kingdom and Ireland when it kicks-off on Tuesday, according to bookmaker Ladbrokes.

Last year, the bookies came out of the Cheltenham Festival largely unscathed thanks to several upsets over the four days.

Ladbrokes spokesperson Nicola McGeady told FreeTips.com: "Every year the Cheltenham Festival just gets bigger and bigger and this year another staggering amount of money is expected to change hands.

"We came out of last year’s festival fairly unscathed but as we know past performances is no guide to future returns."

The firm have revealed the top five horses that could cause the most damage to them over the course of the four days, with Colin Tizzard’s Gold Cup hope Lostintranslation (6/1 at time of writing) on Saturday emerging as the worst result in the book.

Envoi Allen in the Ballymore (11/8), Samcro in the Marsh Novices' Chase (6/1), Appreciate It in the Champion Bumper (6/4), and Goshen in the Triumph Hurdle (3/1) would be the other worst results for Ladbrokes heading into the Festival.
