Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle History

Registered as the Spa Novices' Hurdle, Albert Bartlett has sponsored this important Group One ever since the 2008 Cheltenham Festival.

The Albert Bartlett was introduced to the meeting in 2005, with Francois Doumen's Moulin Riche taking out the first edition.

Jonjo O'Neill then claimed back-to-back winners in the Albert Bartlett, the only trainer to ever achieve that feat, when Black Jack Ketchum and Wichita Lineman won in 2006 and '07.

Future RSA Novices' Chase winner, Weapon's Amnesty won the 2009 renewal of the Albert Bartlett.

Bob's Worth then won this three-mile hurdle in 2011, before going on to win the RSA in 2012 and the Cheltenham Gold Cup the following year.

Since then, the Albert Bartlett has become a bit of a lottery. Several winners have carried long odds to victory. The longest-price winner was Minella Indo, who went off at 50/1 ahead of the 2019 renewal of the Albert Bartlett.

In 2020, Willie Mullins became just the second trainer to win the Albert Bartlett twice, when Monkfish saw off Latest Exhibition and Fury Road in what was a thrilling renewal.
