A Plus Tard won the 2022 Cheltenham Gold Cup

History was made at Cheltenham today, as Rachael Blackmore became the first female rider to win the Cheltenham Gold Cup.

It looked like last year's winner, Minella Indo would retain his crown as Robbie Power's mount opened up a lead turning for home. Yet, Blackmore didn't panic, producing A Plus Tard perfectly and Henry De Bromhead's star powered clear after the last to claim an impressive victory.

For the second year in a row, De Bromhead saddled the 1-2 in the Gold Cup. Protektorat held on to claim third ahead of Galvin, with Royal Pagaille also running well to finish a close fifth.

Away from the Gold Cup, Willie Mullins hogged the headlines, saddling five of the seven winners on day four. Vauban scooted home after the last to win the Triumph Hurdle, before State Man justified favouritism with an easy victory in the County Hurdle.

The Nice Guy then remained unbeaten after striking in the Albert Bartlett. Billaway came from a mile back to finally win the Hunters' Chase, before Elimay went one better than 12 months ago by winning a thrilling renewal of the Mares' Chase.

The 2022 Cheltenham Festival came to an end with a chaotic renewal of the Martin Pipe. Joseph O'Brien's Banbridge edged out Cobblers Dream to win and complete a clean-sweep on Gold Cup day for Irish runners.
