Gold Cup Betting Tips & Betting Preview for Friday's Cheltenham Festival 2020 Big Race

Let's get something clear. I can’t see for the life of me why Santini is the Gold Cup favourite.

Nicky Henderson’s charge only just overcame Bristol De Mai in the Cotswold Chase, despite his rival making significant errors at many of his jumps.

Clan Des Obeaux’s victory in the King George was certainly visually impressive. However, he merely outstayed two two-and-a-half-mile horses, and all the evidence at hand suggests he doesn’t get home on the uphill run to the line at Cheltenham.

Both Al Boum Photo and Delta Work are greatly respected and either would be worthy winners. I have, however, already backed LOSTINTRANSLATION to win this year’s Cheltenham Gold Cup, and I see no reason why I should dessert my ante-post selection.

Having jumped wonderfully on his reappearance at Carlisle, Lostintranslation then dethroned Bristol De Mai in the Betfair Chase, outstaying the Haydock specialist on the long run to the line. An uncharacteristically error-strewn display then followed in the King George at Kempton, where Lostintranslation was pulled up after landing atop the fourth-last obstacle.

Unlike at Haydock, where Robbie Power sat motionless on Lostintranslation at the rear before striking two from home, Power never looked comfortable at Kempton. There were already signs of distress as the field set out on their second-circuit, but Lostintranslation seemed to be warming to his task before his race-ending error.

There was clearly an issue with Lostintranslation that day. A minor wind-op followed and Tizzard has had several months to iron out any other problems. Prior to Kempton, Lostintranslation was the favourite for the Gold Cup and I’m fully prepared to put a line through that display.

I have every faith we’ll see the real Lostintranslation when he makes his triumphant return to Cheltenham and he looks tailormade for a race as challenging as the Gold Cup.

Verdict

Back Lost in Translation to win Friday's Cheltenham Gold Cup 2020.  Bet £500 to win £4750.
