The Fred Winter Handicap Hurdle, also known as the Boodles Juvenile Handicap Hurdle, takes place on Day 1 of the Cheltenham Festival.

Previously part of the second day of action, this handicap now forms part of the opening day.

Named after Fred Winter, it is open only to juvenile jumps, and 2m of the famous turf at Prestbury Park will need to be negotiated.

Boodles Juvenile Handicap Hurdle History

First run in 2005, the Boodles Handicap was named in honour of Fred Winter, one of the most famous and successful jockeys of his time.

The Boodles Handicap Hurdle is only open to juveniles, and runners who don't quite make the grade for the Triumph Hurdle often drop down into the Boodles.

Paul Nicholls was the first trainer to win the race on numerous occasions, with his second and third winners coming in back-to-back years in 2015 and '16.

Irish trainer, Gordon Elliott matched Paul Nicholls tally of three winners in 2020, when Aramax rewarded his many backers with a fine victory on day two.
