The heavens opened on Wednesday at the Cheltenham Festival, swinging the balance even further in favour of the Irish horses, who generally handle heavy ground better than the English. The ground on Thursday is set to be very testing indeed and, by the time we reach the Kim Muir at 5:30pm, the chase course will be completely saturated.

That should suit DUNBOYNE, who does his best work in attritional conditions. The Thyestes Handicap Chase at Thurles is always run on testing ground and Gordon Elliott's charge ran a career-best in that gruelling contest last month, losing out narrowly to the well-backed favourite Carefully Selected.

Elliott's eight-year-old received an eight-pound bump up the weights for that victory and the British handicapper has added a further three pounds on top of that. I doubt that this fresh mark of 141 is Dunboyne's ceiling, however, and I fancy Jamie Codd's mount should take plenty of beating in Thursday's card-closer.
