The second of three Grade One races on day two at Cheltenham is the Brown Advisory Novices' Chase. This three-mile novice chase is often a key pointer towards next year's Gold Cup and there are a few runners in this year's race who could be challenging in the big one in 2025.

Here's our free guide to the 2024 Brown Advisory Novices' Chase. You'll find our best betting tips in the verdict section below.

2024 Brown Advisory Novices' Chase Tips

Selfishly, I was hoping to see Fact To File run in the Turners' Novices' Chase, having put him up at 12/1 at the ante-post stage for that race. Willie Mullins said at the beginning of the season that he had the Brown Advisory in mind for his star novice, and even a pair of two-and-a-half mile victories haven't been enough to sway Willie towards the shorter race.

In truth, Fact To File beat nothing in either of those races. At Christmas, Paul Townend's mount was clear of Zanahiyr and Minella Cocooner from the third-last, and Gaelic Warrior simply didn't turn up in that match race at the Dublin Racing Festival. A lack of opposition doesn't detract from how impressive Fact To File was in both of those races and the favourite is sure to take the power of beating.

Albert Bartlett winner, Stay Away Fay has taken to chasing well this term and didn't disgrace himself when third against his elders in the Cotswold Chase. If this race was being run on the Old Course, I'd fancy Stay Away Fay's chances, but I do fear that Paul Nicholls' seven-year-old could get caught out on the sharper New Course.

Henry De Bromhead has treated Monty's Star with kid gloves this season, as he tends to do with his more precocious novice chasers. Rachael Blackmore's mount jumped beautifully when beating Three Card Brag at Fairyhouse and De Bromhead wasn't in any rush to run Monty's Star during the winter, having bottomed his novice out before last year's Albert Bartlett. This is a big step up in class for Monty's Star, but this half-brother to Monalee clearly has plenty of ability.

After Grey Dawning, who looks set to run in the shorter Turners' Novices' Chase, there's a yawning chasm in the market. Broadway Boy and Sandor Clegane are likely runners, despite a lack of form at the highest level. Giovinco could also take up his entry, but Lucinda Russell has one eye on the Ultima and Derek Fox's mount would have a fantastic chance in that handicap chase.

Three Card Brag or Favori De Champdou could represent Gordon Elliott, with Walking On Air a possible runner for Nicky Henderson. Nothing further down the betting appeals from an each-way standpoint, though, and I'd be shocked if the winner didn't come from the market protagonists.

Verdict

The most likely winner here is Fact To File, who's jumped superbly on his last couple of starts. Willie Mullins rarely gets it wrong when he steps horses up in distance, and this longer trip could bring about further improvement in this potential Gold Cup horse.

If Giovinco was to run in this Grade One, I might have a small each-way bet. Stay Away Fay and Monty's Star are both excellent prospects, but Fact To File is the horse with the biggest upside.
