RSA Novices' Chase Betting Tips, Preview & Prediction

Champ has been all the rage in the RSA betting throughout the entire season, and he’s sure to be popular with the tipsters during preview evenings in the build up to the Cheltenham Festival. I, however, am not convinced.

I don’t think Champ is any better over fences than he was over hurdles. At Newbury, where’s he’s secured all of his chasing victories, Champ has enough time and space to shift through the gears and make up any deficit he may face. Cheltenham is a different story. Once the runners come out of Cleeve Hill, there are two fences in a short space of time, followed by a very short run to the line. Champ couldn’t find top-gear in the Ballymore last season and his fall in the Dipper on New Year’s Day is another off-putting factor.

Allaho has the profile to progress massively over fences and he’s greatly respected. Yet, I think there’s a very strong chance he could be sent to the Marsh Novices’ Chase on day three instead. So, even though he hasn’t really shown too much on both his chasing starts, I’m going to side with MINELLA INDO

Backing up his surprise victory in the Albert Bartlett with another attritional triumph at Punchestown marked Henry De Bromhead’s charge down as a very classy horse last season. Minella Indo has jumped neatly on both his chasing starts and did just enough to beat a future Grade Two winner on his most recent run at Navan. He could take all the beating.
