Australia vs New Zealand Women 2nd T20I Preview

Australia will look to carry on their impressive run of form from the first T20I into the second match on Sunday. New Zealand were hapless against the might of Australia in the first match as they were crushed by eight wickets in Auckland.

Batting first, New Zealand found a way to score 137 but only lost two wickets. Amelia Kerr returned to the New Zealand team with 51 off just 46 balls with five fours. Sophie Devine chipped in with 39 off 36 balls in her return to the team too.

Beth Mooney was unstoppable as she pummelled 75 off just 42 balls with 10 fours and a six while her new opening partner Georgia Voll scored 50 off just 31 balls as the 123-run stand all but killed the game.

Even without Alyssa Healy, Australia have found a way to score quick runs in the Powerplay with Voll and Mooney. That is testament to the depth in their team. Phoebe Litchfield scored 2 off 4 balls.

With the ball, Darcie Brown and captain Tahlia McGrath took a wicket each while Annabel Sutherland was miserly with 21 runs from her four overs.

Australia don’t have too many reasons to change their team for the second match, which they are expected to cruise through again.

New Zealand Form

New Zealand need intervention quickly considering they are up against one of the best teams in recent cricket. They have the resources to do that with Kerr and Devine back but it seems like New Zealand need someone to score at a much quicker rate.

Georgia Plimmer did well to come close, with 27 off 24 balls. Suzie Bates managed 14 off 14. With the ball, the returning Lea Tahuhu took 2 for 31 in her three overs but no bowler had an economy rate of below 8.

While New Zealand were battered in the first match, there won’t be too many changes or too much panic in the camp just yet.

Australia Women v New Zealand Women

Australia were violently dominant in the opener, showing off their skill and talent with both bat and ball. Even though some of their bowlers didn’t take wickets, they showed the power of economy in T20 cricket. Australia are simply too powerful for New Zealand.
