The Brisbane Heat have an excellent record against the Melbourne Stars, winning eight of 13 head to head matches. 

The Stars did get the better of the Heat in the reverse fixture last month when winning by six wickets at Manuka Oval. Nathan Coulter-Nile starred with a ball, taking 4/10 for the Stars, before Hilton Cartwright and Glenn Maxwell both scored 46 in the successful run chase.

Three wins in their last four matches has got the Heat season up-and-running. They followed up a dramatic run chase victory over the Sydney Sixers with an impressive success over Sydney Thunder last time.

Mujeeb Ur Rahman added another two wickets to his haul as his 2/26 helped restrict Sydney Thunder to 174/8 at the Gabba.

Having been subbed in an x-factor playing to make his return from injury, Chris Lynn blasted a 16-ball 30 to get the Heat chase off to a quick start.

But it was Joe Denly (50) and Joe Burns (52) who did the bulk of the work to get the Heat home as they won by five wickets with five balls to spare.

Captain Chris Lynn made his return from a hamstring injury an an x-factor substitute, fielding for 10 overs before starring with the bat. He will come back into the starting line-up with bowler Matt Kuhnemann likely to miss out. Batsman Sam Heazlett was left out of the side in the last game but has been a regular in the side.

Melbourne Stars Form


After three straight defeats, the Melbourne Stars got their season back on track with a crucial win over Hobart Hurricanes in their last game.

The victory was built on an impressive 97 not out from 55 balls for Marcus Stoinis after he dropped to number three in the batting order. His knock, coupled with support from Nicholas Pooran (26) and Hilton Cartwright (36) got the Stars to 183/6.

A thrilling run chase from the Hurricanes at Blundstone Arena saw Hobart fall 10 runs short. Opener Ben McDermott led from the front with 91, but his late dismissal sealed the win for the Stars as the held the Hurricanes to 173/6.

Sam Rainbird was the pick of the Stars bowlers on his return to action, taking 2/22 against his former side.

Nick Larkin failed to take his chance at the top of the order after being brought in by the Stars, leaving captain Glenn Maxwell with a decision over whether to promote Marcus Stoinis to open again.

Zahir Khan was left out last time to make way for the return of Adam Zampa from suspension. Nic Maddinson missed the last game after rolling his ankle and is a doubt once again. Ben Dunk looks set to miss out with wicketkeeper Seb Gotch taking the gloves again.
