Melbourne Stars vs Melbourne Renegades Predictions

Melbourne Stars have won five of the last six derbies and can build on Friday's impressive victory over the Adelaide Strikers. Expect them to feast on a Melbourne Renegades side extremely low on confidence.

  • Melbourne Stars won their last match by 111 runs against the Adelaide Strikers.
  • Stars batsman Andre Russell scored 89 not out, and bowler Adam Zampa took 5/17.
  • Melbourne Stars hold a 13-5 head to head record against the Melbourne Renegades.
  • Melbourne Stars have won 5 of the last 6 matches against the Melbourne Renegades.
  • Melbourne Renegades have lost 8 of their last 9 matches.

Head to Head

Melbourne Stars hold a 13-5 head to head record against the Melbourne Renegades from 18 previous derbies.

The Stars have won five of the last six clashes, including both meeting in BBL09. They won by eight wickets at the MCG and seven wickets at Marvel Stadium.

Melbourne Stars Form

Melbourne Stars bounced back from a run of one win in their last six matches with a comprehensive demolition of the Adelaide Strikers on Friday.

It was a winning return to the MCG as the Stars gave their final hopes a real shot in the arm with a 111-run victory.

Andre Russell set up the Stars' win with 89 not out from the West Indian opener. It was his highest score in BBL10 as he helped the Stars to 179/2 along with Glenn Maxwell (37) and Hilton Cartwright (30 not out).

The Stars then dismissed the Strikers, who they had lost to in their previous game, for 68. Adam Zampa was the matchwinner with the leg spinner claiming 5/17.

Melbourne Stars Team News

There is a slight doubt over the participation of leg spinner Adam Zampa, who injured his shoulder while fielding.

Liam Hatcher and Sam Rainbird were left out against the Strikers and are unlikely to come back in after the huge win. Nathan Coulter-Nile is closing in on a return from injury.

Melbourne Renegades Form

Melbourne Renegades failed to build on their win over the Adelaide Strikers as they suffered a five-wicket defeat to the Brisbane Heat in their last game.

It is now eight losses in the last nine games for Aaron Finch's side, who have won just two of 10 games all season.

Jake Fraser-McGurk (40) and Beau Webster (50 not out) got the Renegades to 149/5 at Manuka Oval in Canberra.

The BBL's bottom side were then made to pay for dropped catches and mistakes with Chris Lynn given three lives during his half-century.

Dropped twice and dismissed from a no ball, Lynn's innings helped the Heat win with eight balls to spare. Joe Burns, 31 not out from 15 balls, got the Heat over the line.

Melbourne Renegades Team News

The Renegades have limited options to switch things around, unless South Africa Rilee Rossouw is fit enough to return from injury.

Aaron Finch is likely to stay at number four after trialling the experiment against the Heat in the last game.

Verdict

The Stars produced an all-round performance against the Strikers and should be much too good for the struggling Renegades.

Marcus Stoinis missed out on runs in the last game, but I'm expecting the opener to be back to his best and he is value to get a fifty.
