Dolphins vs Titans Preview

Dolphins and Titans will face off in the eliminator of the CSA Provincial One-Day Challenge Division One 2025 on Wednesday. Boland have already qualified for the final on account of finishing at the top of the points table after seven games apiece.

Dolphins have had a solid season, winning four of their seven games to finish at 23 points with a positive net run-rate. Their season has been led by JJ Smuts, who has led the batting with 360 runs in seven innings at an average of 51.42.

The Titans have always been a franchise that punch above their weight whether or not international players are part of the squad. This season, they finished with 21 points (and third on the points table) after winning four and losing two of their seven matches in the tournament.

Dolphins Form

Dolphins have been in terrific form, including their most recent win against North West Province on Sunday. They chased down the DLS target quite comfortably, led by Smuts’ 75 off 73 balls, and Jason Smith’s 64-ball 61.

Dolphins have plenty of international talent in their team, including Khaya Zondo, Eathan Bosch and Smuts in their team. Their squad is led by Prenelan Subrayen, whose discipline with the ball mirrors the rest of the team.

Dolphins Team News

Dolphins will stick with the core of their batting which includes openers Smuts and Tshepang Dithole with Bryce Parsons at No. 3. There may be some changes to the bowling based on the conditions on the day.

Titans Form

Like the Dolphins, the Titans have also been in sensational recent form. In their previous match on Sunday, Titans cruised to their target of 231 against the Knights. Dewald Brevis has been their standout performer, with 362 runs in six innings at an average of 72.40. In fact, he is leading the tournament’s run-scoring charts.

Captain Neil Brand, Keegan Petersen and Brevis all hit fifties in the previous match, which sets the middle order up nicely for the eliminator.

Titans Team News

Titans have a reliable balance in their team, including international talent in Roelof van der Merwe, Junior Dala, Andile Phehlukwayo and Brevis. That experience could be an influential factor.

Verdict

Titans are just slightly better and more experienced for these conditions. While the Dolphins are definitely not going to be pushed over, Titans could use their international talent to score enough runs. Dolphins may have some batting gaps in the middle overs, which Titans will exploit as the ball gets softer.
