A well balanced Super Kings set for a top-two spot in Delhi

Delhi Daredevils v Chennai Super Kings Preview & Tips
The Super Kings travel to the Feroz Shah Kotla Ground in Delhi knowing a win over the Daredevils will secure a top-two spot. Delhi have nothing to play for but pride and should be no match for a Chennai side aiming to be in top form before the business end of the tournament.
Daredevils were eliminated from the playoff race after a five-wicket loss against Royal Challengers. The Daredevils scored 181/4 riding on a high-octane 61 off 34 balls from Rishabh Pant and a breezy 46 off 19 from debutant Abhishek Sharma.
However, they ran into the Royal Challengers awesome twosome, Virat Kohli’s 70 off 40 and AB de Villiers’ 72* off 37 helping Bangalore reach 187/5 in just 19 overs.
With nothing left this season Delhi may as well look at building a team for the future. Prithvi Shaw (216 runs, SR 160) at the top has been a whiff of fresh air and looks a long-term prospect.
Same goes for the leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane (one wicket, ER 6.25) who has shown promise on his debut.
Chennai Super Kings
The Super Kings stopped the all-conquering Sunrisers Hyderabad in their last match. Braving a strong start by Shikhar Dhawan’s 79 off 49, Chennai managed to restrict Hyderabad to 179/4.
What could have been a tricky chase was soon turned into a stroll, Ambati Rayudu’s 100* off 62 and Shane Watson’s 57 off 35 led them to 180/2 in 19 overs.
With the playoffs approaching, the Super Kings will hope that Suresh Raina (315 runs, SR 135.19) finds a bit more consistency.
The return of Deepak Chahar (seven wickets, ER 7.29) from injury is a huge boost for the Super Kings who were struggling for control in his absence.
When these two teams met earlier this season in Pune it was a run feast. Led by Watson’s 78 off 40 and a breezy 51 off 22 from MS Dhoni, the Super Kings managed a hefty 211/4.
That proved just enough, as the Daredevils could manage only 198/5. Pant’s belligerent 79 off 45 and Vijay Shankar’s 54 off 31 proved to be futile. Lungi Ngidi with 1/26 and Ravindra Jadeja with 1/31 were the difference for the Super Kings.
- Super Kings have won 8 of the last 9 matches against the Daredevils.
- Super Kings have scored the highest opening partnership in 7 of 12 matches.
- Super Kings have scored the highest score in first 6 overs in 7 of 12 matches.
- Super Kings have the highest run rate of 9.32 per over this season
- Daredevils have conceded the highest at 9.48 runs per over this season
Chennai Super Kings are well covered in all areas and look set to extend their winning run against the Daredevils.
With a top-two place at stake and momentum on their side, I expect them to show the Daredevils no mercy, especially from their openers who look set for another big partnership.
Best Bet: Chennai Super Kings to have the Highest Opening Partnership @ 1.85
Win Bet: Chennai Super Kings to win @ 1.73
