Both these teams finished in the top two of the points table, and have exhibited that a new auction strategy can work in the IPL. Both teams revamped their teams after retaining just a few players, which proved to be a shrewd strategy. 

RCB beat Punjab in the first qualifier by having them bowled out for just 101, which they chased in 10 overs with eight wickets in hand. 

Josh Hazlewood returned with aplomb as he took three wickets on a friendly batting surface while Suyash Sharma chipped in with three wickets too, deploying the googly and the flipper accurately on a skiddy surface. 

Punjab then went on to the second qualifier and put in a spectacular performance to beat Mumbai Indians in a high-scoring thriller that saw them chase down a 200-plus score with an over to spare. 

That was led by Shreyas Iyer, who put in a masterful display of hitting to carry Punjab through to the final in a tricky chase.
