The top two sides in the 2019 Mzansi Super League meet at St Georges Park as the Nelson Mandela Bay Giants attempt to keep their unbeaten record against a resurgent Paarl Rocks. The value on a Rocks win is too hard to ignore while Jason Roy could once again prove his class for the Giants.

Nelson Mandela Bay Giants Form

The Nelson Mandela Bay Giants are unbeaten in the 2019 Mzansi Super League after five matches. There was one no result along with their four victories and they kept that momentum going against the Durban Heat at St Georges Park.

The Giants restricted the Heat to 160 runs with Nandre Burger taking 2-24. English international Jason Roy got the chase off to a fantastic start with a well-played 50 runs and he is tipped be the Giants best batsman at 3.25.

Once Roy was dismissed the Giants struggled but snuck home thanks to the last over heroics of Chris Morris who hit 16 runs off the final over to win with a ball to spare.

The unbeaten Giants can be backed at 1.66 but those odds seem a bit short considering the form the Rocks have shown.

Junior Dala struggled in the last match against the Durban Heat, going at over 10 runs an over and could be replaced by Akhona Mnyaka. The fitness of Beuran Hendricks is unknown but he is a sure starter if passed fit.

Paarl Rocks Form

Paarl Rocks have lost just the one match thus far having played five and sit second on the table behind the Giants. The Rocks last match was the Cape Town derby against the Cape Town Blitz at Newlands.

Batting first the Giants posted a competitive total of 163 runs. Henry Davids top scored with 43 while James Vince continued his run scoring with 23 runs. In a nail-biting run chase the Blitz fell two runs short on 161. Bjorn Fortuin was the pick of the bowlers with 2-20.

James Vince scored 43, 86 and 23 runs in his opening three matches for the Rocks. I am backing him to be their best batsman at 4.00.

It is unusual for long unbeaten runs in T20 cricket so the fact that the bookmakers have offered odds of 2.20 on a Rocks win surprises me. The law of averages dictate the Giants will drop a match and I feel the in-form Rocks could be the team to upset the odds.

Paarl Rocks News

Aiden Markram is out of the tournament, which means the Rocks are short of quality with JP Duminy ruled out a few weeks ago. James Vince will continue in the middle order while JJ Smuts’ superb displays make him a certain starter.

In James Vince (Rocks) and Jason Roy (Giants) both sides have in-form England internationals and both are strong batting sides. The bowling units rely on their spinners in Imran Tahir (Giants) and Tabraiz Shamsi (Rocks) and that is where the game could be won and lost.

Post bet analysis

A healthy profit from this match as the Paarl Rocks finally broke the Giants' unbeaten run. James Vince came through for me again while Jason Roy scored a first-ball duck for my only loss of the evening.
