England will look to bounce back in the 2nd ODI against Australia at Old Trafford on Sunday. The odds favour the hosts considering the injury concerns Australia have but this one should go down to the wire as well with Sam Billings form backed to continue.

England Form

England have now lost their last two ODI matches and go into this 2nd ODI under a bit of pressure. Victory is required to keep the series alive and vast improvement is needed.

After restricting Australia to 120-5 they allowed the Aussies off the hook to post a total of 294 runs at Old Trafford. England’s response in the run chase was disappointing with big players Jason Roy, Joe Root and Jos Buttler failing with bat in hand.

It was left to Sam Billings to try and take England home but despite a superb innings of 118 runs he couldn’t get England home, as they fell 19 runs short.

England News

England aren’t likely to change too much from the team in the 1st ODI. Tom Banton and Dawid Malan are both waiting in the wings but may need to remain there for a while longer.

Australia Form

Australia recovered from a shaky start in the 1st ODI to post 294 runs at Old Trafford. Mitchell Marsh and Glenn Maxwell were responsible for the batting recovery as the two scored 73 and 77 runs respectively.

Josh Hazelwood was superb as he took 3-26 in 10 overs along with Adam Zampa who took 4-55. Their efforts restricted England to 275 runs as the visitors walked away with a 19-run win.

Australia News

Steven Smith missed the 1st ODI and remains a doubt for the 2nd. Mitchell Starc also has a niggle and could miss the 2nd ODI.

England vs Australia Head to Head

England hold a 11-3 advantage over Australia in their last 14 ODI matches. Their last match saw Australia beat England by 19 at Old Trafford.

England vs Australia Odds

England are priced at 1.72 to win with Australia valued at 2.10. Jonny Bairstow can be backed at 4.00 to be England’s best batsman while David Warner has odds of 3.75 in the same market for Australia.

England vs Australia Match Up

The pitch at Old Trafford was a bit two-paced in the 1st ODI which brought the spinners into the game quite a bit. Despite using a fresh pitch for the 2nd ODI we could get similar conditions with it being late in the English summer – this will ensure the match-up between spinners, Adam Zampa and Adil Rashid will once again be crucial.

England vs Australia Stats

  • England’s Sam Billings has scored 67, 46 & 118 runs in his last 3 ODI matches.
  • England’s Jonny Bairstow scored 84 runs in his last ODI match.
  • Australia’s Aaron Finch has scored 66 & 69 runs in 2 of his last 4 ODI matches.
