England face Ireland in the 2nd ODI at the Rose Bowl on Saturday as the hosts look to go 2-0 up in a three-match series.

The pitch in the opening ODI was not favourable to batsmen and with the 2nd ODI at the same venue, I see another low scoring affair, especially if Ireland bat first again.

England Form

England have won 15 of their last 19 ODI matches, a run which includes winning the 2019 Cricket World Cup.

England won the 1st ODI of this series against Ireland by six wickets at the Rose Bowl in Southampton. Eoin Morgan won the toss and elected to field, a decision that paid off handsomely as David Willey took 5-30 to bowl Ireland out for 172 runs.

England wobbled in response but Eoin Morgan (36) and Sam Billings (67) took England to victory with a 94-run partnership.

England News

England may experiment with a couple of new players for the 2nd ODI. Joe Denly pulled out of the 1st ODI with back spasms on the morning of the game but could return for this match.

Ireland Form

Ireland lost the opening ODI against England at the Rose Bowl after a poor batting effort. Having been sent in to bat Ireland found themselves at 28-5 before Curtis Campher and Andy McBrine put together a partnership.

McBrine managed 40 runs while Campher top scored on debut with 59 runs to help Ireland post 172 runs. It was never going to be enough but Ireland fought well with the ball, reducing England to 78-4.

Ireland News

Ireland will likely select a similar line-up as they continue to give some younger players a run. William Porterfield could however return with Ireland’s batting clearly lacking experience.

England vs Ireland Head to Head

England hold a 9-1 advantage over Ireland in their 11 matches. with one no result. England won their last encounter by six wickets at the Rose Bowl on Thursday.

England vs Ireland Odds

England are short priced at 1.07 to win with Ireland available at 9.00 on bet365.

England vs Ireland Match Up

Ireland will need drastic improvement in the batting department if they are to challenge this England side. England were solid in the 1st ODI but their top order will be desperate to get some runs after failing last time out.

England vs Ireland Stats

  • England have won 15 of their last 19 ODI matches.
  • England have won 9 of their 10 completed matches against Ireland.
  • England’s Sam Billings scored 67 runs in his last ODI match.
