Head to Head

England lead Sri Lanka 4-2 over their last six ODI matches In the 1st ODI of this series England cruised to a five wicket win at Chester-le-Street.

England Form

England will be pleased with their opening ODI performance against Sri Lanka. While the visitors have been extremely poor, this will serve as good preparation for upcoming challenges.

In the 1st ODI, Eoin Morgan won the toss and asked Sri Lanka to have a bat. Chris Woakes and David Wiley produced superb bowling performances, taking four and three wickets respectively. They bowled Sri Lanka out for a measly 185 runs in just over 42 overs.

Jonny Bairstow came out firing with the bat, smashing 43 off 21 balls. Joe Root completed the job by scoring 79 not out to lead England to a five wicket victory.

England Injuries & Team News

The England squad is fully fit. They have been chopping and changing their side a lot over the last few matches so we could once again see a fair few changes.

Sri Lanka Form

Sri Lanka’s hopeless tour of the UK showed no signs of improvement in the 1st ODI at Chester-le-Street. Batting first they only managed to score 185 runs.

Kusal Perera showed his class by scoring 73 runs at the top of the order. Wanindu Hasaranga contributed 54 in 99-run partnership with Perera. Unfortunately only one other player managed to score more than 10 runs.

The visitors had little chance in defending that mediocre total. Dushmantha Chameera still managed to bag figures of 3-50 in eight overs as England won by five wickets.

Sri Lanka Injuries & Team News

Kusal Mendis, Danushka Gunathilaka and Niroshan Dickwella were all sent home after breaching COVID-19 protocols prior to the 1st ODI.

A few changes are likely but whether that will actually improve performance remains to be seen.
