India vs England Predictions
India started the ODI series in magnificent fashion and will want to seal the series victory in the 2nd ODI. My best bet is for Virat Kohli to cross the 50-run mark yet again after doing so in four of his last five ODI matches.
- India have won 5 of their last 6 home ODI matches.
- India’s Virat Kohli has scored 80, 77, 73 & 56 runs in 4 of his last 5 ODI matches.
- India’s Shikhar Dhawan scored 98 runs in the 1st ODI.
- England have lost 4 of their last 5 ODI matches.
- England’s Jonny Bairstow has scored 82, 84, 112 & 96 runs in 4 of his last 6 ODI matches.
Head to Head
England have won three of their last four ODI matches against India. It was India who won the 1st ODI of this series by 66 runs in Pune.
After a very tightly contested T20 series which India won 3-2, the hosts began the ODI series on a winning note. They lead the three-match series 1-0 going into the 2nd ODI.
India batted first in the opening match and reached 317 in their 50 overs. Under pressure Shikhar Dhawan found his form with a top score of 98 runs. Virat Kohli chipped in with 56, KL Rahul 62 and debutant, Krunal Pandya with 58 runs.
The hosts struggled initially with the ball as England smashed their way to 135 off just 14 overs. India then pulled the visitors back as Prasidh Krishna took 4-54 and Shardul Thakur 3-37.
India ended up taking the victory in Pune by a comfortable 66-run margin.
India Injuries & Team News
Jasprit Bumrah is rested for this series while fellow fast bowler, Mohammed Shami remains out injured.
After an impressive 1st ODI, especially by the debutants, India may be tempted to go with the same lineup. There are players waiting in the wings including the in-form Rishabh Pant.
England began the ODI series with a 66-run defeat in Pune. Eoin Morgan elected to field first after winning the toss, something England are always keen on doing.
The decision however backfired as India smashed their way to 317 runs. Ben Stokes was the pick of the bowlers taking 3-34 in eight overs.
Jason Roy (46) and Jonny Bairstow (94) got England off to a magnificent start with a 135-run opening partnership. That partnership came in under 15 overs which put England in a great position to chase down the total.
Unfortunately the visitors collapsed thereafter as only Eoin Morgan (22) and Moeen Ali (30) passed the 20-run mark. England were bowled out for 251 in 42.1 overs which will be disappointing considering the strong position the openers put them in.
England Injuries & Team News
England have rotated all summer and will likely continue to do so. Mark Wood seldom plays two matches in a short space of time so we could see him replaced by Reece Topley or Matt Parkinson.
On the batting front England will likely go with the same as the 1st ODI. There could be a reshuffle of the order with Ben Stokes moving slightly down the order and Sam Billings up.
India vs England Live Stream FAQ
Virat Kohli scored 50+ runs for the fourth time in five matches in the 1st ODI against England. I'm backing him to do so again and be the hosts top scorer. Kohli can also be backed in the Man of the Match market.
Jonny Bairstow's ODI form is second to none. He has hit 80+ runs in four of his last six ODIs and has value to be England's best batsman for the second consecutive match.
