India vs South Africa 2nd ODI Preview, Predictions & Betting Tips

India meet South Africa in the 2nd ODI in Hucknow after the 1st ODI washed out without a ball being bowled. The visitors are in superb form having won their last three ODI matches and are tipped to be victorious against India. South Africa's Heinrich Klaasen is backed to score 50+ runs.

Shikhar Dhawan has a fantastic record against South Africa and his return to India's side will give the hosts a boost..

India Form

India lost their last three ODIs against New Zealand and are under pressure on home soil. The 3rd ODI against New Zealand saw India score 296 runs with KL Rahul top scoring on 112 runs. The Black Caps however won comfortably by five wickets.

The 1st ODI against South Africa was unfortunately rained out so we are now down to a two-match series.

Virat Kohli will want to get his team back to winning ways but they come up against a side full of confidence. The return of some stalwart performers should give the hosts hope.

The return of Shikhar Dhawan is a massive boost to India considering he averages almost 50 against South Africa in ODI cricket. This includes three 100+ scores and four 50+ scores in 18 matches.

South Africa Form

South Africa beat Australia 3-0 in an ODI series just before leaving for India and have won six of their last seven ODIs in total.

The Proteas bowled first in the 3rd ODI against Australia in Potchefstroom and restricted the Aussies to 254 runs.  South Africa chased that total down to win by six wickets as Jon-Jon Smuts top scored with 83 runs.

Heinrich Klaasen scored his third successive score of 50+ runs as he ended unbeaten on 68 runs. He averaged 242 over the three matches against Australia and certainly deserves backing in the 2nd ODI against India.

The last time South Africa toured India they won the five match series 3-2 and will want a repeat this time around. Some experienced players return including Faf du Plessis which ensures there won’t be too many players who haven’t experienced these conditions before.

South Africa News

South Africa have lost Tabraiz Shamsi for the tour due to the birth of his child. Faf du Plessis and Temba Bavuma have returned to the South African squad to further bolster their credentials.

India vs South Africa Head to Head

South Africa have had the better of India but in recent times India have won seven of their last 8 ODIs. The last ODI between India and South Africa ended in a six wicket victory for India during the 2019 Cricket World Cup in Southampton.

India vs South Africa Betting Odds

India are comfortable favourites at 1.40 while South Africa is valued at 3.00 to win. Virat Kohli can be backed at 3.10 to be India's best batsman with Shikhar Dhawan at 4.50.

Quinton de Kock leads the best batsman market for South Africa at 3.60 followed by Temba Bavuma, Faf du Plessis and Janneman Malan all on 5.00. The in-form Heirich Klaasen is valued at 4.00 to score 50+ runs.

India vs South Africa Match Up

India will want their returning players in particular Shikhar Dhawan to find some early form. They will be key against an in-from South African batting and bowling line-up. More importantly, the true test will be India's spinners and whether South Africa can handle them.

The young batsmen in the South African line-up will have a key eye on senior players such as Faf du Plessis, Quinton de Kock and Temba Bavuma to see how they deal with India's spin options.
