South Africa vs Australia 2nd ODI Preview, Predictions & Betting Tips

South Africa and Australia meet at the Mangaung Oval for the 2nd ODI of the three-match series. The hosts won the 1st ODI and are backed to repeat that feat while Heinrich Klaasen deserves backing in the run scoring markets.

For Australia either Marnus Labuschagne has been consistent in ODI cricket and can looked at in the over/under runs scoring market.

South Africa Form

South Africa were magnificent in the 1st ODI although they found themselves in early trouble at 48-3. Heinrich Klaasen went on to score his maiden ODI century with 123 runs while Kyle Verreynne and David Miller scored 48 and 64 runs respectively.

South Africa’s total of 291 runs always looked a stiff target on a slow wicket and they never really allowed Australia to threaten – bowling them out for 217 runs with five overs still remaining to win by 74 funs.

It was a magnificent innings from Klaasen and he is backed to score runs again while South Africa can be backed to take a 2-0 lead at 2.75.

South Africa News

South Africa played two spinners in the 1st ODI but it is unlikely that Bloemfontein will offer as much assistance. This should allow for Lutho Sipamla to come in for Keshav Maharaj.

Australia Form

Australia lost the 1st ODI of the series by 74 runs at Boland Park in Paarl. It wasn’t the easiest of batting wickets but despite Pat Cummins being brilliant with the ball Australia allowed the hosts to score 291 runs. It was probably a more 240-260 run pitch and the Aussies never really recovered.

Marnus Labuschagne continued his fine ODI form with a third successive 40+ run score but his dismissal for 41 set the collapse in motion. Steven Smith scored 76 runs but only one other player managed more than 20 runs.

Steven Smith and Marnus Labuschagne’s form deserves backing but unless they fire or David Warner comes off at the top of the innings, Australia’s batting looks pretty weak lower down. The visitors remain clear favourites at 1.41 but with a defeat behind them those odds seem pretty short.

Australia News

Australia may look to make some changes with Adam Zampa making way for Ashton Agar while Kane Richardson will also be keen on a game.

South Africa vs Australia Head to Head

South Africa have won nine of their last 10 ODIs against Australia with the last victory coming at Boland Park by 74 runs in the 1st ODI of the current series. Quite incredibly these two have men on 101 occasions in ODI cricket with South Africa winning 49, Australia 48, three ties and one no result.

South Africa vs Australia Betting Odds

South Africa are priced at 2.75 to win with Australia short priced at 1.44. Quinton de Kock is paying 2.75 in the best batsman market for the hosts while David Warner can be backed for Australia at 3.50.

Australia’s Marnus Labuschagne is payng 1.83 to score over 25.5 runs with Heinrich Klaasen at 4.50 to score 50+ runs. To repeat his feat of the 1st ODI Klaasen is valued at 10.00 to score 100+ runs.

South Africa vs Australia Match Up

After a summer of over reliance on the run scoring of Quinton de Kock South Africa eventually managed to put in a performance without De Kock producing the goods. With South Africa’s middle order finding some form it could mean trouble for the Aussie bowlers.

Pat Cummins was superb in the 1st ODI but he lacked support around him while Australia’s batsmen, other than Steven Smith and Marnus Labuschagne failed to make an impression.

Post bet analysis

South Africa secured a 6-wicket victory in the 2nd ODI while Heinrich Klaasen scored 50 runs to give me a healthy profit. Marnus Labuschagne was out off the first ball he faced but that did little damage to what was a big win. Overall 15 units gained on the match.
