Royal Challengers Bangalore vs UP Warriorz Preview
After two straight wins to start the season, RCB have collapsed miserably as they have dropped to four consecutive losses to move to fourth on the points table. They are now in desperate need of a win against the bottom team UP Warriorz. If UP Warriorz lose this match, they will officially be out of the WPL despite showing signs of promise. They had won two straight matches, including a stunning Super Over victory against RCB earlier in the competition.
RCB’s collapse has been bizarre. They have the resources and talent but haven’t been able to close out tight games. This is probably their one final chance to give themselves a chance at qualification.
Royal Challengers Bangalore Form
RCB have lost their last four matches, including one Super Over defeat where they couldn’t chase down nine against Sophie Ecclestone’s wiles. Their last two games, however, have been massive losses: by nine wickets against Delhi and by six wickets against Gujarat Giants.
Ellyse Perry has been in sublime form but she has not had much support from the other end. Smriti Mandhana and Danni Wyatt-Hodge have been in middling form, which has not helped the team in this tumultuous period.
Royal Challengers Bangalore Team News
Sneh Rana has added a reliable dimension of spin to their line-up. But RCB need more support for her in the spin department.
UP Warriorz Form
Like RCB, UP Warriorz have hit a wall in terms of form. They have now lost their last three matches, which has left them with just two wins in seven games. In their previous match, they were properly beaten by a resurgent Mumbai team by six wickets (and nine balls remaining).
Georgia Voll was a bright spark in their chase, with 55 off 33 balls with 12 fours. Grace Harris and Deepti Sharma chipped in with 25-plus scores but there was not much else as they were only able to muster a below-par score of 150 for 9.
UP Warriorz Team News
In a must-win, UP Warriorz may consider bringing Tahlia McGrath back for a shot at qualification.
Verdict
RCB have the edge in this one, not just because of recent form but also because of confidence and skill. UP Warriorz have a balanced team but they don’t seem to have the momentum or rhythm to put this lean patch behind them quickly. We expect RCB to keep their chances alive with a close win.
