Wellington Firebirds vs Central Stags Predictions

The Wellington Firebirds have talent all over the field and have proven that this season. With seven wins from eight matches, I’m backing the hosts to win once again.

  • Wellington Firebirds’ Tom Blundell scored 62 runs in his last match.
  • Wellington Firebirds’ Devon Conway scored 50 runs in his last match.
  • Wellington Firebirds have won 7 of their last 8 matches.
  • Central Stags’ George Worker is the top run-scorer (369) in the Super Smash.

Head to Head

The Wellington Firebirds lead 15-12 against the Central Stags in 27 matches. When they met towards the end of 2020, the Firebirds won by 39 runs at McLean Park in Napier.

Wellington Firebirds Form

The Wellington Firebirds are eight points clear at the top of the Super Smash table and are certain of a home playoff match. They have won seven of their eight matches this season so will be full of confidence.

In their last match, the Firebirds beat the Canterbury Kings by seven wickets at the Basin Reserve. The Kings scored 153 runs batting first in what a good bowling effort by the Firebirds.

Devon Conway scored 50 and Tom Blundell 62 runs in response as the Wellington Firebirds cruised to a seven wicket victory. The pressure will be off for their final two matches but the Firebirds will not want to lose momentum before the playoffs.

Wellington Firebirds Injuries & Team News

The Wellington Firebirds will go into this match at full strength. Should they win it they will use their final match as an opportunity to rest players.

Central Stags Form

The Central Stags are second on the Super Smash table and victory in either of their final two matches will guarantee a home playoff birth.

Last time out the Stags were poor, especially with ball in hand. The Auckland Aces batted first and scored 199 runs at the Eden Park Outer Oval.

The Stags response with the bat was decent, but not good enough. Will Young continued his for with 37 runs while Doug Bracewell smashed 32 down the order. The top scorer for the innings was Tom Bruce with 52 runs.

In the end, their 182 runs fell 18 runs short of the target as the Aces won their first match of the season.

Central Stags Injuries & Team News

The Central Stags still need a win to confirm their home playoff place so the pressure is on. They are unlikely to make any changes.

The Stags will however be hopeful that star batsman, Ross Taylor can start finding some form.
