Head to Head

Australia have won four of their last five T20I matches against Bangladesh. It was however Bangladesh who won the 1st T20 of this series by 23 runs.

Bangladesh Form

Bangladesh returned home for this series after a 2-1 series win in Zimbabwe. Despite their form being average and missing two key players, the hosts pulled off a superb 23-run win in Dhaka against the Aussies.

Batting first Bangladesh scored 131 runs. Not a huge total but the pitch was slow which made for difficult scoring. Shakib Al Hasan top scored with 36 runs while Mohammad Naim contributed 30.

Given the pitch conditions Australia were always going to struggle against the spinners. Nasum Ahmed took 4-19 in four overs to restrict Australia to 108 runs in 20 overs.

Bangladesh Injuries & Team News

Mushfiqur Rahim and Tamim Iqbal remain out due to COVID-19 protocols. Russell Domingo is likely to stick with the same side that won the 1st T20I.

Australia Form

Australia will be seriously concerned with their T20I form with the World Cup in October this year. They suffered a 4-1 series defeat in the West Indies prior to this tour, and now suffered defeat in the 1st T20I against Bangladesh.

The Aussies bowled well with Josh Hazelwood taking 3-24. Adam Zampa and Ashton Agar – Australia’s two spinners – both went at under six runs to the over as Bangladesh posted 131 runs.

The score was par at best but Australia suffered from ball one with Alex Carey dismissed off the first ball. Mitchell Marsh continued his fine form, scoring 45 runs but no one else passed the 13-run mark. By the end of the 20 overs Australia could only reach 108 runs.

Australia Injuries & Team News

Having seen conditions, Australia may opt for allrounders Dan Christian and Moises Henriques. They both offer batting quality but more importantly, their bowling will suit the slow conditions in Dhaka.
