New Zealand vs Australia Predictions
Australia have leveled the series at 2-2 after being 2-0 down. With momentum on their side, my best bet is for Australia to complete the comeback and clinch the series with victory.
- New Zealand’s Devon Conway has scored over 22.5 runs in 6 of his last 8 matches.
- New Zealand’s Devon Conway has scored 50+ runs in 5 of his last 8 matches.
- Australia have won the last 2 T20 matches against New Zealand.
- Australia’s Aaron Finch has scored 50+ runs in his last 2 T20 matches.
Head to Head
Australia hold an 9-3 lead over New Zealand in 13 previous T20I matches. There was one tie in that time.
Australia leveled the series at 2-2 after winning the last match by 50 runs at the Basin Reserve.
New Zealand Form
New Zealand have been disappointing in the last two matches of the series. They got off to a cracking start by winning the first two T20’s against Australia but have lost the subsequent two.
After winning the toss, Australia elected to bat first at the Basin Reserve in the 4th T20. They went on to score 156 runs, a competitive score on a slow wicket.
The Black Caps response was disappointing as they allowed the Aussie spinners to dominate. Only three batsmen managed to get to double figures as Tim Seifert scored 19, Devon Conway 17 and Kyle Jamieson 30 runs.
The hosts were dismissed for a paltry 106 to lose by 50 runs. That has set up a series decider in the final T20 at the Basin Reserve.
New Zealand Injuries & Team News
New Zealand have made very few changes in the series. In the last match, Mitchell Santner came back in for Mark Chapman.
The big hitting Glenn Phillips has not scored many in the series but they are most likely going to stick with him as the selectors look forward to the World Cup.
Australia have fought back superbly in the last two matches to level the series at 2-2. That is mainly due to Aaron Finch finding some form and the pitches being slow, which has suited the Aussie spinners.
Aaron Finch returned to form with 69 runs in the 3rd T20 and then scored 79 not out in the last match. He was the only batsman to surpass the 50-run mark on a slow pitch.
Australia’s score of 156 seemed to be about par but Ashton Agar again bowled magnificently. He took 2-11 in four overs while fellow spinner, Adam Zampa took 2-24 in four overs.
The 50-run victory will give Australia all the momentum heading into the series decider on Sunday.
Australia Injuries & Team News
Australia have hardly made any changes to their side in the four matches during the series. Despite Matthew Wade’s continued failures the selectors seem to be persisting with the same lineup.
This will be the third match at the Basin Reserve so the spinners should play a big role again. Ashton Agar and Adam Zampa are likely to start again.
