Head to Head
West Indies have won seven of their last nine T20I matches against Australia. Australia won the 4th T20I against the West Indies by four runs but the hosts lead the series 3-1.
West Indies Form
The West Indies cruised to victory in the first three T20 matches of the series but fell just short in the fourth. They will be slightly disappointed having put themselves in a good position.
Australia batted first and scored 189 runs. Hayden Wash took 3-27 to be the hosts best bowler for the third successive match.
Needing 190 to win, the West Indies got off to a fine start. Lendl Simmons smashed 72 off 48 balls while opening partner, Evin Lewis scored 31 off just 14 balls.
Chris Gayle and Andre Fletcher departed cheaply with Fletcher particularly guilty of wasting deliveries. His six off 14 balls cost the hosts in the end.
Andre Russell smashed 24 and Fabian Allen 29 but it was a little too late as the West Indies lost by four runs.
West Indies Injuries & Team News
The West Indies rested Shimron Hetmyer to give Andre Fletcher a run in the middle order. It didn’t pay off so I expect Hetmyer to make a return.
After losing the first three matches of the series, Australia will be pleased by their comeback in the fourth match. Mitchell Marsh continued his form by hitting 75 off 44 balls while Aaron Finch supported him with 53 runs.
Those two did most of the damage as Australia ended on 189 after 20 overs. It could have been much higher if the middle and lower order got going.
Marsh backed up his stellar batting performance with 3-24 in four overs. He won the man of the match award. Riley Meredith struggled, going at more than 14 runs to the over while Dan Christian fetched 23 runs in his only over.
In the end Mitchell Starc held his nerve in the final over to secure a four-run win for the visitors, their first of the series.
Australia Injuries & Team News
Josh Philippe will be hoping to get a run as an opening batsman in the final match. Matthew Wade has failed consistently so could face the drop.
