Australia cruised through the group stages, winning all four matches before seeing off Bangladesh in their opening Super 8 fixture. They were, along with India and South Africa, the only unbeaten sides at the tournament.

In their last game, Australia came up short against Afghanistan which has suddenly put their semi-final hopes in jeopardy. On a slow surface, Afghanistan batted well, putting on a 118-run opening partnership.

Australia kept things tight and took plenty of wickets in the final overs, but the 148-run total was above par on that surface. Glenn Maxwell fought alone with the bat, smashing 59 off 41 balls, however, none of the other 10 batsmen scored above 11.

Extras with 16 was the second highest run-scorer for Australia as they were bowled out for 127 in 19.2 overs.

Australia have not made many changes to their side during the tournament, but this must-win game might see some changes, depending on the pitch.

India Form

India are one of only two unbeaten sides at the tournament thus far. While defeat can still see them being knocked out before the semi-finals, it will take a huge loss to Australia and for Afghanistan to demolish Bangladesh, both unlikely scenarios.

In their last match, India batted first, scoring 196 in 20 overs against Bangladesh. Hardik Pandya top scored with 50 off 27 balls, but there were 30+ scores from Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant and Shivam Dube.

Bangladesh couldn’t keep up with the required rate from the get-go as Kuldeep Yadav took 3-19 in four overs. India won the match by 50 runs.

India won’t want to lose any momentum ahead of the semi-finals later in the week. They also need a win to guarantee progression to the semi-final. They could go into this match unchanged.
