England, as defending T20 World Cup champions, simply must win this game. They will be hoping that weather doesn’t cost them dearly. I am backing the in-form Jos Buttler to lead them to victory.

Oman and England have never met in the T20 format before.

England are under huge pressure going into this match after failing to win either of their opening two games. Their opener was rained out against Scotland, but the Scots were at 90-0 after 10 overs when the rain came.

In their last game, England suffered defeat to Australia by 36 runs. The bowlers didn’t really find their straps as the Aussies scored 201 batting first.

Jos Buttler (42) and Phil Salt (37) got the English off to a good start with a 73-run opening stand in seven overs. However, once they were dismissed things started going downhill for England and they could only reach 165 in their 20 overs.

This is a must-win game for the defending champions. They are unlikely to risk an upset by resting players.

Oman Form

Oman have lost their opening two games of the tournament to Australia and Scotland. Against the Aussies, they bowled well, restricting Australia to 164. They couldn’t chase the total down successfully, but it was nevertheless a good effort.

Last time out, against Scotland, Oman batted first, scoring 150 runs in their 20 overs. Pratik Athavale top scored with an impressive 54 off 40 balls.

As good as the bowlers were against Australia, as poor they were this time around. Scotland smashed their way to victory inside 16 overs at over 11 runs per over.

Oman Injuries & Team News

Oman were never likely to qualify but they will still want to put in a big performance and hopefully cause an upset. I expect a similar side to what featured against Scotland.

The value in this game is on Jos Buttler for me as he looks to steer England to their first win of the tournament.

For Oman, Pratik Athavale was impressive with the bat in the last game.
