South Africa vs England Preview

England are favourites to win given their recent upturn in form, but South Africa are unbeaten in the tournament and have come through some tough games on poor pitches. My best bet is a Proteas win.

South Africa have been victorious in their last two T20I games against England. They last played in 2022.

England Form

England started the tournament poorly and very nearly were knocked out at the group stage. However, the defending champions found form at the right time and now suddenly look among the favourites again.

Last time out, against the West Indies, England won by eight wickets to get their Super 8 off to a good start. Bowling first, England conceded 1880 runs in 20 overs.

Phil Salt smashed 87 off 47 balls to lead the England chase. Jonny Bairstow ably supported Salt, scoring 48* to steer England to victory with 15 balls to spare.

England are unlikely to make any changes to their side.

South Africa Form

South Africa were unbeaten in the group stage and won their opening Super 8 game against the USA. Despite the positive results, the Proteas have hardly been convincing though.

The group games were in the USA where pitches were admittedly tough, and the bowlers had to rescue things on occasion. However, in their last game, South Africa managed some runs, scoring 194 in 20 overs. Quinton de Kock top scored with 74 off 40 balls.

The bowlers did well to restrict the USA initially but let things slip later on. The USA eventually reached 176 in 20 overs. This England batting lineup will be a far bigger test for the Proteas bowlers.

South Africa Injuries & Team News

South Africa have been pretty consistent in their selection. Conditions at Gros Islet could well be good for batting and that may worry South Africa given England’s batting strength.
