Papua New Guinea vs Scotland Predictions

Scotland will be on a high after the massive upset the caused last time out. This time they are favourites but should have no issue putting Papua New Guinea away. Opening batsman George Munsey is backed to score over 25.5 runs as my best bet.

Head to Head

Papua New Guinea and Scotland have met on two previous occasions with Scotland winning both. They last played about 10 days ago, a match Scotland won comfortably by eight wickets.

Papua New Guinea Form

This is the first taste of the T20 Cricket World Cup for Papua New Guinea. Their participation alone is something to celebrate for a squad of largely amateur players.

They lost their opening match by 10 wickets to Oman in Al Amerat. Batting first on a good pitch, Papua New Guinea did not get off to a good start as both openers were removed for ducks.

Assad Vala however showed his class by scoring 56 runs in a 78-run partnership with Charles Amini (37). An unfortunate run out split the two up and then things collapsed as Papua New Guinea crawled their way to 129 runs.

Oman took full advantage of the total to win by 10 wickets with more than six overs to spare.

Papua New Guinea Injuries & Team News

Assad Vala twisted his ankle while batting in the last match. He did continue so should be fit to start this match.

Scotland Form

Scotland came into this World Cup knowing that they have the quality to cause an upset, or at least compete with some of the stronger sides. They managed to upset the odds in their very first match, beating Bangladesh in Al Amerat.

Scotland batted first and were in deep trouble early on. Languishing on 53-6, Chris Greaves (45) and Mark Watt (22) rescued the situation. They ended on 140 in their 20 overs, still well below par on a good batting surface.

The bowlers however kept the pressure on Bangladesh with Brad Wheal particularly good with his figures of 3-24 in four overs. Scotland restricted the Tigers to 134 to secure a crucial win. Another win here and they could be going to the Super 12.

Scotland Injuries & Team News

Scotland are unlikely to make changes. The batsmen will have to perform better this time around but the bowlers were exceptional against Bangladesh.
