Ireland have been disappointing at the World Cup to date while the USA have been quite impressive. That said, Ireland do have a much stronger side on paper, so I fancy them to pull this one off.

The USA recovered from 25/3 to reach 110/8 off their 20 overs, Nitish Kumar top-scoring with 27 off 23 balls.

Saurabh Netravalkar produced an inspired spell of bowling to peg India back to 10/2, with Ali Khan knocking over Rishabh Pant to leave them 39/3 in the eighth over, but that was their last success as India picked off the winning runs with 10 balls to spare.

USA are in good form and are unlikely to make any changes to their team for what could be their last match in the tournament.

Ireland Form

Ireland came into the World Cup in good form, only to lose to India by eight wickets, followed two days later by a 12-run defeat to Canada.

Canada posted a competitive score of 137/7 on the New York pitch. Craig Young (2/32) knocked Canada back to 42/3 after five overs, with Barry McCarthy (2/24, econ 6.00) keeping things tight at the end of the Canada innings.

Ireland’s chase got off to a slow start and stumbled to 59/6 before a 62-run stand between George Dockrell (30*) and Mark Adair (34) put them back in the game, but the asking rate was too high and they ended 12 runs short of their target.

Ireland have been way below par in this tournament and need a major improvement with bat and ball, but they have quality players who have the ability to beat the hosts.
