The West Indies restricted Papua New Guinea to 136/8 off their 20 overs. Andre Russell (2/19 econ 6.33) and Alzarri Joseph (2/34) were the pick of the West Indies bowlers.

The West Indies started well through Brandon King (34) and Nicholas Pooran (27) but looked vulnerable at 97/5 before Roston Chase (42* off 28 balls) and Andre Russell (15* off nine balls) powered the West Indies home with some late sixes to win with six balls to spare.

Uganda Form

After being hammered by 125 runs by Afghanistan in their World Cup opener, Uganda picked up their first World Cup win over Papua New Guinea.

Uganda’s bowlers pegged Papua New Guinea back in incredible fashion, bowling them out for 77 after 19.1 overs. Their bowlers all went for less than 5.5 an over and all picked up at least one wicket, with Frank Nsubuga (2/4, econ 1.00) returning the best figures.

In response, Uganda were in disarray at 26/5, but Riazat Ali Shah (33) stabilised the innings and took his side to the brink of victory, winning with 10 balls to spare and three wickets in hand.
