Bangladesh vs Zimbabwe 1st Test Preview, Predictions & Betting Tips

Bangladesh take on Zimbabwe in a one off Test Match in Dhaka with the hosts firm favourites for the win. The run scoring markets offer great value especially for the in-from Brendan Taylor and Mominul Haque.

Bangladesh Form

Bangladesh have lost six of their last seven Test matches. Bar their defeat to Afghanistan they were never expected to challenge against India, Pakistan and New Zealand.

Their last match against Pakistan ended in an innings at 44-run defeat in Rawalpindi. After being bowled out for 233 Pakistan compiled a 445-run total leaving Bangladesh needing 215 runs just to make Pakistan bat again. Bangladesh failed to make that happen as they fell for 168 runs.

Despite that poor run of results the bookmakers have Bangladesh as clear favourites for a reason. On home soil I expect them to have the batsmen to score runs and the spin bowlers to run through Zimbabwe’s batting.

Mominul Haque scored 161 runs the last time Bangladesh met Zimbabwe so I’m backing him at 4.50 to be the best first innings batsman. At 1.28 Bangladesh could be handy in an accumulator while a draw is priced at 7.50.

Bangladesh News

Bangladesh have no injury concerns as yet and should be at full strength.

Zimbabwe Form

Zimbabwe impressed in their last series at home to Sri Lanka despite losing the two-match series 1-0. The 2nd Test at Harare Sports Club saw Zimbabwe score 406 thanks to 107 runs from Sean Williams. Sri Lanka responded with 293 before Zimbabwe declared on 247 runs in their second innings.

Rain curtailed Zimbabwe’s efforts to bowl Sri Lanka out as the visitors ended on 204-3 as the match was drawn.

Brendan Taylor is a class apart from the other Zimbabwean batsmen and scored 62 and 67 runs in that Test against Sri Lanka. On top of that he scored 100+ runs in both innings the last time he played Bangladesh in November 2018.

Zimbabwe News

Sean Williams will miss the Test as he stayed at home for the birth of his child. This is a massive loss for Zimbabwe on the batting front.

Bangladesh vs Zimbabwe Head to Head

Overall Zimbabwe have won seven and Bangladesh six of their 16 Test matches. There have been three draws. But Bangladesh have won five of their last six meetings, the last ending in a 218-run win for Bangladesh in Dhaka.

Bangladesh vs Zimbabwe Betting Odds

Bangladesh is priced at 1.28 for the win while Zimbabwe have long odds of 7.00. A draw can be backed at 7.50.

Tamim Iqbal is paying 3.25 to be the best Bangladesh first innings batsman while Mominul Haque is priced at 4.50. Brendan Taylor is the clear favourite for Zimbabwe at 4.00 with Craig Ervine offering odds of 4.33.

Mominul Haque is priced at 1.90 to score 50+ runs in the match while Brendan Taylor can be backed at 2.00 to achieve the same feat.

Bangladesh vs Zimbabwe Match Up

Zimbabwe’s batsmen will come under scrutiny in Bangladesh, can they can score runs on a spin friendly pitch? It should be a great contest between two sides near the bottom of the Test rankings, but at home Bangladesh have the batsmen and bowlers to get them over the line.
