After a mammoth chase in the previous Test, England will take a vital series lead into the next Test in Edgbaston that starts on Wednesday. India will be despondent after putting in a terrific opening performance but even that wasn’t enough against the skill of this English team. 

England hunted down 373 on the final day by five wickets, led by Ben Duckett’s 149 off 170 balls. Joe Root and Zak Crawley also hit fifties to ensure that England aced the chase in the final session on the fifth day.

England have had no issues with form in this home season. Even in the only Test against Zimbabwe, they were barely pushed. 

Josh Tongue was excellent in the first Test as he finished with seven wickets across two innings.

England have named an unchanged squad for this Test. 

India Form

India will be a bit jittery going into the second Test because they put in an excellent performance but were still found out. 

The good news is that their batting is firing, which bodes well for the rest of the series against an England bowling unit that can be inconsistent.

Jasprit Bumrah’s availability is uncertain considering he is scheduled to play only three Tests this series. 

“It's how we manage these four Tests,” India’s assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate said. “So if we feel like there's value in playing him in this Test, we'll make that call at the very last minute. I'm talking about weather, how the pitch is going to play, are we better off holding him back for Lord's and maybe Manchester or The Oval?”
