England and Pakistan meet in the 2nd Test at the Rose Bowl on Thursday. After an enthralling 1st Test the series is set up perfectly, but conditions at the Rose Bowl are unlikely to be as suitable to the visitors.

Jos Buttler can continue his fine form while Pakistan will once again rely on Babar Azam.

England Form

England were largely outplayed in the 1st Test until the final two days. On a wicket that offered spin it was always going to be dangerous against Pakistan and even more so after the visitors managed 326 runs in their first innings.

England were dismissed for 219 runs in their first innings which gave Pakistan a healthy lead. The English bowlers however then stood up and bowled Pakistan out for 169 runs which left England a daunting but achievable total of 277 runs.

At 117-5 England looked dead and buried but Jos Buttler and Chris Woakes scored 75 and 84 runs respectively to take England home by three wickets. That victory should give England plenty of confidence going into the 2nd Test.

England Team News

Ben Stokes has been ruled out of the series for family reasons with Zack Crawley coming into the side. Sam Curran comes in for Jofra Archer.

Pakistan Form

Pakistan won the toss in the 1st Test and batted first, exactly what they wanted to do on a dry pitch. Shan Masood was brilliant as he scored 156 runs along with Babar Azam who contributed 69 runs in a 326-run total.

The visitors then dismissed England for 219 and took a 107-run lead into their second innings. That is where the match started to slip with Pakistan bowled out for 169 runs to leave England a target of 277.

Pakistan were heavy favourites and had England at 117-5, but the hosts still managed to get to the target as Pakistan lost by three wickets.

Pakistan Team News

Pakistan have made one change with Fawad Alam replacing Shadab Khan.

England vs Pakistan Head to Head

Pakistan hold a 9-7 advantage over England in their last 17 Test matches along with one draw. In this 1st Test of this series England crept to a three wicket victory at Old Trafford.

England vs Pakistan Odds

England are priced at 1.90 to win with Pakistan at 4.00 to win. A draw can be backed at 3.50.

Joe Root is paying 1.66 to score 50+ runs in the match while Pakistan’s Babar Azam is valued at 1.80 in the same market at bet365.

England vs Pakistan Match Up

The strength of both sides are in their bowling departments so unless rain intervenes, we should get a winner. Much may be dependent on what the pitch is produced at the Rose Bowl and who wins the toss but after the 1st Test it is difficult to see a way back for Pakistan.
