England are overwhelming favourites once again despite Sri Lanka’s showing some defiance in the last two games. The value is with Joe Root who scored 100+ runs in each innings of the last Test.

England lead the series 2-0 with one match to play. The hosts will want to secure a sixth successive Test home win this summer.

In the second Test, a glorious 143 runs by Joe Root took England to 427 runs batting first. They then bowled Sri Lanka out for 196 runs but did not enforce the follow-on.

Root again scored 100+ runs as England were all out on 251, leaving Sri Lanka with a target of 483. The visitors batted much better in the second innings but could only reach 292 runs and England won by 190.

Sri Lanka may be 2-0 down in the series but they have been much better than many predicted. The 190-run defeat in the second Test was mainly down to one man, Joe Root.

Bowling first, Sri Lanka did well to restrict England to 217-6. However, Joe Root and Gus Atkinson then batted superbly to take the hosts to 427.

Sri Lanka could only respond with 196 as the top and middle order once again failed to fire. Kamindu Mendis rescued the cause with a well-played 74 runs.

In England’s second innings, the visitors again bowled well, but again, Joe Root’s 103 was enough to get England to 251 runs.

Chasing 483 was never realistic but Sri Lanka put up a fight. Dimuth Karunaratne, Dinesh Chandimal and Dhananjaja de Silva all scored 50+ runs in a 292 total.
