India vs England Predictions
Rohit Sharma has struck 161, 26, 66 and 25 not out in his last four Test innings. He has been the one consistent batsman this series so my best bet is for him to score 50+ runs in either innings.
- India’s Rohit Sharma has scored 161 & 66 runs in his last 2 Test matches.
- India’s Ravichandran Ashwin has taken 24 wickets in his last 3 Test matches.
- India are unbeaten in 36 of their last 38 home Test matches.
- England’s Joe Root has scored 186, 228 & 218 in 3 of his last 5 Test matches.
Head to Head
England have won four of their last seven Test matches against India. India won the 3rd Test of the current series by 10 wickets in Ahmedabad to take a 2-1 lead with one to play.
India have bounced back brilliantly in the second and third Test after losing the first to England. The pitch in the 3rd Test in Ahmedabad has come in for much criticism after the match finished within two days.
England were bowled out for 112 runs after electing to bat while India could only respond with 145 runs, 66 of which went to the in-form Rohit Sharma.
Axal Patel took six wickets in the first innings and then five in the second as England crumbled for a paltry 81 runs. That left India needing 49 runs to win, which they achieved without losing a wicket.
Patel’s match figures read an incredible 11-70, his best figures by a long shot. On the batting front, only Rohit Sharma really performed well and has now moved up to sixth on the ICC Test batsman rankings.
India Injuries & Team News
India will be forced into one change with Jasprit Bumrah pulling out of the 4th Test for personal reasons. It is safe to assume that the pitch will take plenty of turn again, so India will stick to their three spinners.
Rohit Sharma’s form at the top of the order will be pleasing for the selectors. He hit 66 and 25 not out in the 3rd Test after a big century in the 2nd Test.
England have not coped well with the spinning conditions in India. They won the 1st Test mainly thanks to Joe Root’s double century, but since then they have failed to manage any big scores.
After electing to bat in the 3rd Test, Zak Crawley scored 54 runs but England were dismissed for 112. The next highest score was Joe Root’s 17.
Much can be said about the pitch by just looking at Root’s bowling figures. He took 5-8 in just over six overs as India were bowled out for 145 runs. That brought England back into the match, but they needed a good second innings.
Unfortunately they were dismissed for 81 runs as Ben Stokes top scored with 25. India scored the 49 runs needed for victory without losing a wicket.
England Injuries & Team News
England made a huge selection blunder in the 3rd Test as they opted for a three prong pace attack with Jack Leach the lone frontline spinner.
On a pitch that was turning big from day one, that turned out to be an error. It is almost certain that Dom Bess will come in for one of the fast bowlers in the final Test.
Zak Crawley will retain his place after a brilliant half-century in the 3rd Test.
