India vs New Zealand Predictions
India are missing a number of first choice batsmen but their bowlers still have the quality to win the match on home soil. My best bet is for India to win the 1st Test.

Head to Head
New Zealand have won their last three Test matches against India but none of those three have been played on Indian soil.
They last met earlier this year in the Test Championship final in England, a match the Black Caps won by eight wickets.
India lost the World Test Championship final but played two more matches thereafter against England. The hosts won the first match but India bounced back to level the series before the third was called off due to COVID.
What will inspire plenty of confidence for India is the fact that they have won nine of their last 10 Tests’ at home. In fact, 22 of their last 28 matches have ended in victory on home soil with only two defeats.
India will be desperate to get one over New Zealand in this series as they attempt to reclaim the No.1 ranking they lost.
India Injuries & Team News
India have a few issues to deal with. Virat Kohli is unavailable for the 1st Test and now KL Rahul has gone down with injury. Shreyas Iyer is likely to receive a debut in the middle order with Hanuma Vihari playing for India A in South Africa at the moment.
From a bowling perspective India are still very strong, but their batting will be of concern. Only three of their batsmen have more than 10 long format matches under the belt.
Rohit Sharma will also miss the 1st Test through injury. Shubman Gill looks set to open the batting after originally being selected as a middle-order batsman for this fixture.
New Zealand Form
New Zealand come into this Test series as the World No.1 ranked Test side. They won the inaugural World Test Championship, beating India in the final at the Rose Bowl in Southampton.
Coincidently, that is also the last Test match New Zealand played in as focus turned to the T20 Cricket World Cup from July onwards.
During that final, Kane Williamson scored 49 and 52 runs while Devon Conway continued his fine form with another score of 50+ runs. The Black Caps won the match by eight wickets.
On sub-continent pitches it is however going to be a very difference challenge for New Zealand. Not many of their batsmen have succeeded in similar conditions so there will be a huge reliance on Williamson to produce the goods.
New Zealand Injuries & Team News
Kane Williamson is back after giving the T20’s a miss. The side will look a bit different as Kyle Jamieson is sure to get a start.
The Black Caps will almost certainly need to start with two spinners though so there could be a selection dilemma with regards to which fast bowlers miss out.

India are missing key players, but in turning conditions they have the bowlers to dominate. I am backing and India win with Cheteshwar Pujara to top score in their first innings.
Kane Williamson enjoyed a magnificent year in Test cricket. His form is worth looking at in the best New Zealand batsman market.
