Neither side has played much Test cricket this year, in fact, Zimbabwe have not played any in 2024. On home soil, Ireland have the bowling attack to trouble far better sides. I am backing a home win.

Ireland don’t get to play much Test cricket and when they do, it is often in one-off series like this one.

The Irish last play five-day cricket in March, a match they won by six wickets against Afghanistan on home soil. Afghanistan batted first and were all out for 155 runs before Ireland piled on 263.

With a 100+ deficit, Afghanistan scored 218 runs in their second dig, leaving the hosts with a chase of 111. Ireland did that for the loss of four wickets with Andy Balbirnie scoring 58*.

Andy Balbirnie leads the side and will look to lead from the front with the bat. Ireland have a very good bowling lineup, particularly for conditions on home soil.

Zimbabwe Form

Zimbabwe have not played any Test cricket in 2024 which pretty much shows where the five-day game ranks on their calendar.

This one-off Test offers Zimbabwe the chance to get some long form cricket under their belt, but it is difficult to build momentum when games are so few and far between.
