New Zealand vs England Cricket Betting Tips - Impressive New Zealand tipped to continue fine home form in 1st Test Match

England’s batting inconsistency could cost them at the Bay Oval in 1st Test

New Zealand play England in the 1st Test match of the series at the Bay Oval, the first Test match ever hosted at the venue in Mount Mauganui. The Black Caps have been very impressive in red-ball cricket at home and they offer great value in the outright win market.

New Zealand Form

New Zealand surprised many with their series leveling victory in the second Test against Sri Lanka in August 2019. Sri Lanka batted first and scored a modest 244 runs to which the Black Caps responded with 431 runs as Tom Latham (154) and BJ Watling (105) scored big.

Sri Lanka had no answer as they were bowled out for a paltry 122 runs, losing by an innings at 65 runs in Colombo.

The Black Caps are even better at home with four victories and a draw from their last five Tests. That includes a 1-0 series victory over England in 2018.

New Zealand are listed at 2.40 to win outright, considering their home form I am tipping them to get one over England.

New Zealand News

The relieving news for New Zealand is that captain Kane Williamson has been passed fit to play. Fast bowler Lockie Ferguson has been named in the 15-man squad and could make his Test debut after impressive first class and ODI performances.

England Form

England drew their last Test series 2-2 against Australia. They won the 5th Test at The Oval but it wasn’t enough to stop the Aussies from retaining the Ashes.

Batting first England scored 294 runs Jos Buttler top scored with 70 runs. He is valued at 8.00 to be England’s top first innings batsman for this match.

Jofra Archer took 6-62 as Australia fell for 225 runs. England’s second innings ended on 329 runs as with Joe Denly scoring 94 runs. Stuart Broad was in top form taking 4-62 as they dismantled Australia for 263 and thus winning the match by 135 runs.

England News

England go into the series with a number of inexperienced players. Batsman Ollie Pope is in line to make his debut as are bowlers Matt Parkinson and Saqib Mahmood.

Stuart Broad and Jofra Archer are certainties in the bowling department while Ben Stokes is the all-rounder. Record wicket-taker James Anderson is not on tour as he continues to recover from a injury he picked up in the Ashes.

England’s inconsistency in the batting department and Joe Root's lack of form makes are concerns.

New Zealand vs England Head to Head

New Zealand have won two of the last three Test matches against England while the other ended in a draw. The last match took place in 2018 in Christchurch where England batted first and posted 307 runs. In reply New Zealand mustered 278 runs.

England’s 352 runs in the second innings put the pressure on the hosts but at 258-8 the match reached a close it ended in a draw.
