New Zealand vs India 2nd Test Preview, Predictions & Betting Tips

New Zealand can wrap up a series victory against India at Hagley Oval in the 2nd Test. After winning the 1st Test, New Zealand are favourites to win while Kane Williamson and Tom Latham can be backed in the run scoring markets.

New Zealand Form

A brilliant 1st Test performance by New Zealand ensured the scars they had after returning from Australia are now firmly behind them. Tim Southee took 4-49 as New Zealand dismissed India for 164 runs in their first innings.

Kane Williamson responded emphatically scoring 89 runs to top score as New Zealand scored 348 runs. Southee took 5-61 and Trent Boult 4-39 as India again failed with the bat, all out for 191 runs leaving New Zealand needing just nine runs to win.

Williamson showed enough form in his 89 runs to deserve backing. Opening New Zealand batsman Tom Latham has a great record at Hagley Oval with 176 and 83 runs in two of his last three innings, he offers superb value in the run scoring markets.

New Zealand have lost only once at the Hagley Oval in six matches and are valued at 2.25 to take the win and the series.

New Zealand News

I don’t expect any changes for New Zealand after a brilliant 1st Test performance. Debutant Kyle Jamieson acquitted himself well with both bat and ball so should retain his place.

India Form

India arrived in New Zealand full of confidence in Test Match cricket. Seven straight victories in the format made them favourites but New Zealand beat them convincingly by 10 wickets at the Basin Reserve.

India only narrowly avoided an innings defeat after scoring 165 runs in the first innings and 191 runs in the send. The only batsmen that had a positive 1st Test was Mayank Agarwal who scored 34 and 58 runs.

Agarwal is backed to score 50+ in the 2nd Test at 2.80. India are priced at 2.30 to win the match with a draw paying 6.00.

India News

In the absence of Shikhar Dhawan it is likely that Prithvi Shaw will continue as an opening batsman. Rohit Sharma was sent home during the ODI series due to injury which makes India short on quality batsman.

New Zealand vs India Head to Head

India have won six of the last nine Test matches against New Zealand, but it was the Black Caps who won the 1st Test of this series by 10 wickets at the Basin Reserve.

New Zealand vs India Betting Odds

New Zealand are favourites at 2.25 with India paying 2.30 for the win. A draw can be backed at 6.00. In the draw no bet market you can get New Zealand at 1.80 and India at 2.00.

Kane Williamson is the favourite  in the best New Zealand first innings market at 3.40 followed by Ross Taylor and Tom Latham. Virat Kohli leads the way for India at 3.25 while Mayank Agarwal has plenty of value at 5.00.

New Zealand vs India Match Up

In home conditions New Zealand proved far too much for the visiting Indian side. On a pitch that offered plenty of pace and bounce, the Black Cap bowlers ran through India twice and a similar pitch can be expected at the Hagley Oval.

While India’s bowlers did well generally, they did not pose much threat. It is on the batting front that India will be most concerned with two scores under 200 runs not good enough.
