Pakistan vs Sri Lanka 1st Test Betting Tips - Pakistan can win first home Test match since 2009

Azam set to keep superb batting form going in Rawalpindi

Pakistan host Sri Lanka in Rawalpindi for the 1st Test of the series. It is the first Test match to be played in Pakistan since 2009 and I expect Pakistan to perform in front of a packed stadium. Babar Azam has shown superb form recently while Sri Lankan captain Dimuth Karunaratne has history against the hosts.

Pakistan Form

Pakistan’s poor Test match form continued in their last series, losing 2-0 to Australia. The last Test in Adelaide saw the hosts post a mammoth 589 runs batting first, Babar Azam scored 97 runs in response as Pakistan were bowled out for 302 runs.

They were forced to follow-on and only managed 239 runs thus losing by an innings and five runs. Babar Azam has however showed great form during the series after scoring 104 runs in the 1st Test and should be backed in the run scoring markets.

This will be Pakistan’s first Test match in Pakistan since 2009 and they will be highly motivated to give their supporters something to celebrate. I believe their form will turnaround in this one and can be backed at 1.83 for the win.

Pakistan News

Imam-ul-Haq came in for the 2nd Test against Australia, and despite not scoring runs is likely to continue. Mohammad Abbas is another that should keep his place while they could draft in another spinner for Muhammad Musa should conditions dictate they do so.

Sri Lanka Form

Sri Lanka lost their last Test match to New Zealand in Colombo by an innings and 65 runs. Dimuth Karunaratne scored 65 runs as Sri Lanka posted a total of 244 runs batting first. New Zealand responded with 431 before Sri Lanka collapsed for 122 runs as New Zealand leveled the series 1-1.

Karunaratne has shown superb form against Pakistan in the recent past with 93 and 196 runs in two of his last three innings. The left-handed opener deserves to be backed in the run scoring market.

Sri Lanka will go in as underdogs at 3.75 while a draw will pay 4.00.

Sri Lanka News

Sri Lanka have appointed Mickey Arthur as coach after he was relieved of his duties by Pakistan earlier this year. Their squad has not been announced yet but Arthur is unlikely to make too many changes in his first Test in charge.

Pakistan vs Sri Lanka Head to Head

Sri Lanka have won three and Pakistan two of the last five Test matches between the two sides. Batting first Sri Lanka scored 482 runs in Dubai 2017 with Dimuth Karunaratne scoring 96 runs.

Pakistan’s response was a measly 262 but they then bowled Sri Lanka out for 96 giving themselves hope of victory. The final innings saw Pakistan dismissed for 248 runs as they fell 68 runs short in a tense finish.

Pakistan vs Sri Lanka Betting Odds

Pakistan are favourite at 1.83 to win while Sri Lanka are priced at 3.75. A draw will pay 4.00. We will be looking at the run scoring markets once those odds become available.

Pakistan vs Sri Lanka Match Up

Pakistan should have the upper hand in the bowling department especially if the pitch offers something for the fast bowlers. A flat pitch will bring Sri Lanka and their spinners into the game at a later stage.
