The Australians are certainly not an invincible side with many chinks in their armor, but the addition of Steven Smtih should solidify their batting lineup. From the first Test, the Windies struggled to deal with the quality of the seam bowlers of Australia, so this could be another tough assignment.

The West Indies will be somewhat disappointed with their performance in the first Test, or at least the latter part thereof. They had Australia in a very vulnerable position a few times but let them off the hook.

Bowling first, the Windies bowled the visitors out for 180 runs. They couldn’t capitalise with the bat though as they were all out for 190, a 10-run lead.

In Australia’s second innings, the hosts had them on the ropes at 64-4 but again the West Indies let their grip slip and allowed the Aussies to get to a total of 310. Needing 300 to win, the West Indies couldn’t form any meaningful partnership as they were all out for 141 runs.

I expect the West Indies to remain unchanged for this Test. There have been murmurs of a player accused of sexual harassment but, according to head coach, Darren Sammy, there has been no communication with the cricket board, so they will wait for due process.

Australia Form

Australia won the first Test by 159 runs in Bridgetown. The game hung in the balance for much of the test, but the Aussie dominated towards the end which got them the win.

The batsmen struggled batting first as Usman Khawaja scored 47 and Travis Head 59 runs. They were all out for 180 runs. However, the bowlers kept Australia I the game, sharing the wickets as the West Indies were all out for 190.

Early wickets again cost Australia but the middle to lower order came good in the end. Travis Head, Beau Webster and Alex Carey all scored in the 60s to push the Aussies to a total of 310, giving the hosts a target of 300.

Josh Hazelwood was the destroyer in chief second time round, taking 5-43 as the Windies were bundled out for 141 runs.
