West Indies vs Bangladesh 2nd Test Match Preview & Betting Tips

After thrashing Bangladesh in the 1st Test by an innings and 219 runs for their biggest win at home, West Indies get ready to host the 2nd Test at Sabina Park in Kingston on Thursday. The blows from the 1st Test are still fresh for Bangladesh with the Windies ready for a knockout punch.

West Indies

It took the hosts just under seven sessions to display their dominance in the 1st Test on a track that suited their bowlers. Fast bowler Kemar Roach’s 5/8 on the opening day demolished Bangladesh for 43 runs, their lowest-ever score.

Opener Kraigg Brathwaite scored a patient 121 and West Indies built around him with 50s by Devon Smith and Shai Hope to score 406 to take a 363-run lead. Fast bowler Shannon Gabriel’s 5/77 then bundled the visitors for 144 to complete an innings and 219 runs victory.

Barring a fighting knock by wicket keeper Nurul Hasan in Bangladesh’s second innings, West Indies were comprehensive and clinical in all departments. Kemar Roach couldn’t take the field in the second innings due to a niggle, but his absence was not felt by the hosts.

Bangladesh

On a pitch that had a bit of bounce and sideward movement, Bangladesh crumbled like ninepins in the first innings of the 1st Test. Only opener Liton Das with 25 got into double digits as the visitors fell like flies.

Fast bowler Abu Jayed impressed with 3/84 on his debut, but the other Bangladesh bowlers struggled for efficiency to let the match get out of reach. The second innings with the bat was an equally sorry affair as they crumbled under pressure.

The only positive for Bangladesh has been Nurul Hasan’s counter-punching 64 in the second innings that delayed the inevitable. The lack of partnerships has been their bane as the batsmen looked like rabbits lost in traffic.

Match Up

It was a rare Test match where Windies could do no wrong. The bowlers led their attack with aplomb and were relentless in their pursuit for wickets. Key batsmen got enough time in the middle to be confident of their form for this Test.

Bangladesh have a lot to ponder, but the biggest difference they could make is to their mindset. There is no dearth of experience in this squad, but the likes of Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan are only as good as their last performance.

Key Statistics

Verdict

West Indies are in uncharted territory because they have not been able to string successive wins for quite some time. If ever there is a chance for them to do that, it's now. Bangladesh are there for the taking and we predict an easy West Indies victory.
