India are clear favourites so the value in this match will be in the run-scoring markets. I’m backing Tangerine Chanderpaul and Virat Kohli to top score for their sides in the first innings.

India have won their last four Test matches against the West Indies. They have not met since August 2019.

West Indies Form

West Indies cricket is at one of its lowest-ever points as they enter into this first Test against India. Over the last three weeks the Windies have failed to qualify for the ODI World Cup later this year, the first time they will not participate.

To add insult to injury, the West Indies test form has been poor as well. They have won just one of their last six games, with one draw and four defeats.

The last time the West Indies featured in Test cricket was their 2-0 series defeat in February and March this year in South Africa.

Jason Holder and a couple of other key players were sent home early from World Cup qualification to prepare for this series.

India Form

India have won four of their last seven Test matches, but in the last three they have lost twice and drawn once. Despite winning the series 2-1 at home to Australia, India struggled in the last two games, losing once and drawing the last.

They still qualified for the World Test Championship final where they faced Australia again. This time it was however in England where conditions favoured the Aussies.

India suffered a 209-run defeat in that final, and they will want to find some of their best form in this series once again.

As usual, the Indian side have a few headaches. Much will depend on what they make of the pitch, but two spinners are likely.
