New Zealand U19 vs Pakistan U19 Preview, Predictions & Betting Tips

New Zealand and Pakistan meet in Benoni in the 3rd place playoff of the 2020 U19 Cricket World Cup.  The value is in the best batsman markets with Haider Ali tipped for Pakistan and Nicholas Lidstone for New Zealand.

New Zealand U19 Form

New Zealand were outclassed by Bangladesh in their semi final in Potchefstroom as they lost by six wickets. New Zealand batted first but Bangladesh’s spinners got the better of them. Nicholas Lidstone scored 44 runs while Beckham Wheeler-Greenall contributed 75 runs batting at number six.

A total of 211 runs was never going to challenge a strong Bangladesh line-up and they cruised to victory with six overs to spare for the loss of only four wickets.

Lidstone was the only New Zealand batsman who really looked comfortable against the Bangladesh spinners. Pakistan possess potent spin bowlers themselves so I’m going to back Lidstone in the best batsman market.

New Zealand are underdogs at 4.00 and they’ll need a far better batting display if they are to achieve 3rd place.

New Zealand U19 News

New Zealand may look to make a few changes as Hayden Dickson and Ben Pomare could get a game in what is essentially a dead rubber.

Pakistan U19 Form

Pakistan lost their last match to India in the semi final by 10 wickets in Potchefstroom. Batting first Haider Ali and Rohail Nazir were the only Pakistan batsmen to get among the runs with 56 and 62 respectively. Only one other player went past 20 runs.

This meant their total of 172 runs was always going to be short and India got the runs without losing a wicket and with seven overs to spare.

It was a disappointing performance from Pakistan who looked like the one side who could upset India. This defeat won’t change the fact that they are heavily favoured to finish third ahead of New Zealand. I’m backing Haider Ali to top score at 4.33.

Pakistan U19 News

Pakistan will want to finish on a high and have been consistent is selection throughout. Without any late injuries I believe they’ll go with the same line-up as the semi final.

New Zealand U19 vs Pakistan U19 Head to Head

Pakistan have won three of their last four completed matches against New Zealand at U19 level. Their last match took place in 2018 where Pakistan chased down a 186 run target set by New Zealand to win by five wickets in Lincoln.

New Zealand U19 vs Pakistan U19 Betting Odds

New Zealand is priced at long odds of 4.00 to win with Pakistan heavily favoured at 1.25. In the best batsman market Haider Ali is valued at 4.33 for Pakistan while Nicholas Lidstone is priced at 7.00 for New Zealand.

New Zealand U19 vs Pakistan U19 Match Up

New Zealand have struggled to deal with the spin bowlers from sub-continent sides during the World Cup thus far and for this reason have failed to post enough runs to get victories. It has been a tournament dominated by spin so they’ll need to learn quick if they are to upset the odds against Pakistan.
